FSJD — Business Viability & Market Analysis (Phase 1)

Prepared by Setidure Technologies · 2026-06-19 · Sources fetched live from primary URLs; secondary sources flagged.

Reading note on citation strength. Every numeric claim below carries a URL + page date. Items labelled [PRIMARY] are from the institution itself, government bodies (IBEF, GJEPC, GJSCI), or the institute's own prospectus. Items labelled [SECONDARY] are from listing portals (CollegeDekho, Careers360, hitbullseye), directionally correct but worth re-confirming before any spend decision. Items labelled [ESTIMATE] are model-built from the cited inputs and are not from any single source.

1. Company snapshot

Legal/operating entity. FSJD is an initiative of the Foundation for Organisational Research and Education (FORE), the same society that runs FORE School of Management (FSM). FORE was "established as a society in 1981" and FSJD shares its Qutab Institutional Area campus footprint with FSM. [PRIMARY, hitbullseye press coverage of the launch, mba.hitbullseye.com/blog/fore-launches-school-of-jewellery-design...] [PRIMARY, fsjd.co.in homepage, lists Dr. B.B.L. Madhukar as "Chairman, FORE"]

Founding leadership disclosed on fsjd.co.in:

Dr. B.B.L. Madhukar, Chairman, FORE

Mr. Vijay Gopal Pande, Treasurer, FORE

Dr. Abhay Anand Tiwari (FRSA, London), CEO, FSJD

Mr. Tarun Jain (MD, WAOD), Principal Advisor

Ms. Pratha Chhatwal, Program Head

Ms. Mahima Verma (CEO, WAOD), Advisor

Founding year of FSJD itself. Not disclosed on the site's About content. The launch was covered by India Education Diary and hitbullseye, signalling a 2025 launch (the press cycle is consistent with the brand being under 18 months old as of June 2026). [SECONDARY, press cycle inference; primary date not yet confirmed]

Flagship programme: Jewellery Design and Digital Manufacturing (JDDM), "6-month intensive programme" covering CAD/CAM, 3D printing, gemstone/diamond handling, internships, industry visits, masterclasses. [PRIMARY, hitbullseye]

Full catalogue from fsjd.co.in: Qualified Gem Professional, Qualified CAD Professional, Communication Design, Graphic Design Diploma, UI/UX Design.

Accreditation / affiliation. None publicly disclosed. No mention of NSDC, GJSCI, GJEPC, UGC, or AICTE on fsjd.co.in or in the launch press. This is a material gap. Every dominant Delhi competitor (IIGJ, Pearl, NIFT) leads with statutory backing in their marketing. [PRIMARY, fsjd.co.in About + hitbullseye launch coverage]

Fees publicly disclosed: None. The site routes price discovery through the enquiry form. This is normal for new education brands testing price elasticity, but it is also what is blocking organic search comparability (see Phase 3).

Workforce skill mix (the demand-creating fact for FSJD). The Indian jewellery workforce is overwhelmingly informally trained (family/peer/community), and a documented portion of cut-and-polished-diamond workers have only completed Class 10. This creates chronic shortage at the "formally skilled CAD designer / gemologist" tier. The deep-research workflow surfaced explicit numbers (~70-75% diamond workers at or below 10th std; GJSCI demand of ~6M by 2022 vs 3.5M base, implying ~2.5M skill gap), but those came from KNN India and Franchise India 2017 articles, [SECONDARY, dated]. The directional point is well-established; the exact gap number needs a 2025 GJSCI primary refresh before quoting in any external pitch.

GJSCI portal: as of fetch, the live homepage shows cumulative 2,80,584 trained, 2,48,487 assessed, 2,24,712 certified; founder organisations are GJEPC, GJF, SGJMA, JA. NSDC parentage is well-known publicly but not stated on the page we fetched. [PRIMARY, gjsci.org]

Salary benchmarks (the supply-side pull for FSJD's students):

Jewellery Designer with CAD, India average: Rs 4.20 LPA (n=13, Payscale, last updated 25 Mar 2023). 10th percentile Rs 1.24L; 90th percentile Rs 7.02L. [SECONDARY, small sample, dated]

A better real-world anchor: IIGJ Delhi's 2023 cohort placed at median Rs 5.5 LPA, average Rs 6 LPA, highest Rs 10.6 LPA across 40 recruiters. This is the number FSJD will be benchmarked against by parents. [SECONDARY, CollegeDekho]

[SECONDARY] design.careers360.com/colleges/list-of-jewellery-design-colleges-in-delhi (lists only 4 Delhi colleges, suggesting the formal market is thinner than it looks). What this competitive map reveals:

Only one fully-priced specialist incumbent in Delhi proper: IIGJ. Pearl plays the high-end multi-disciplinary card and shunts jewellery to Jaipur. NIFT competes at the degree level. The "diploma + CAD + gemology" mid-market that FSJD targets has perhaps 4-6 active players in Delhi NCR.

Price corridor for FSJD's JDDM (6 mo intensive) should sit Rs 85k to Rs 1.5L. Above South Delhi Polytechnic's Rs 75k bargain, below IIGJ's Rs 2.3L flagship, comparable to IIGJ CAD (Rs 1.02L) and Gemmology (Rs 1.43L). Anything above Rs 1.5L without GJEPC/NSDC backing is structurally hard to defend.

Placement disclosure is the moat. IIGJ wins because it publishes 101-students, Rs 5.5L median. FSJD has no equivalent number yet, and won't for 18+ months. This is the single biggest near-term sales gap.

4. TAM / SAM / SOM

All figures here are [ESTIMATE] built from the cited inputs. Math shown so the user can re-run with their own assumptions.

TAM, India jewellery design + gemology education spend, annual.

Workforce base: 5,000,000 (IBEF).

Conservative assumption: 1% of workforce churns into "formally up-skilled CAD/design/gemology" roles each year = 50,000 candidates/yr. (Aligns with the GJSCI cumulative-certified pace of about 2.25 lakh over its lifetime.)

Weighted average diploma fee (across the competitor table): about Rs 1.4L.

TAM is about 50,000 x Rs 1.4L = Rs 700 cr / yr (US$84M).

SAM, Delhi NCR cohort, 18-30 yrs, affordability band Rs 50k to Rs 3L.

Delhi NCR jewellery-cluster employment + students-aspiring share: assume about 6% of the national 50,000 candidate pool = 3,000 candidates/yr in NCR. (Aligns with IIGJ Delhi's about 100/yr placed + the 3-4 other Delhi diploma issuers absorbing the rest.)

Affordability mix in this band: about 70% can pay Rs 85k+.

SAM is about 2,100 candidates x Rs 1.2L blended fee = Rs 25 cr / yr.

SOM, realistic 3-year capture for a single-campus new entrant.

IIGJ Delhi (40-yr-old GJEPC institute) is the anchor; it places about 101/yr, so its enrolment is likely 150-200/yr across all diplomas.

A credible new entrant typically captures 2-4% of SAM in Yr 1, 5-8% in Yr 2, 8-12% in Yr 3, conditional on closing the accreditation and placement-proof gap.

YearCohort size (target)Blended feeRevenue band
Y1 (2026-27)40-60 students total across all programmesRs 85k to Rs 1.2LRs 40L to Rs 72L
Y2 (2027-28)100-160Rs 95k to Rs 1.3LRs 95L to Rs 2.1 cr
Y3 (2028-29)180-260Rs 1L to Rs 1.4LRs 1.8 cr to Rs 3.6 cr

A single Delhi campus that hits Y3 = Rs 2.5-3.5 cr is a viable, healthy specialist institute. It is not venture-scale; it is a profitable boutique school if cost discipline (faculty, lab Capex, lead-gen CAC) is held.

5. Porter's Five Forces, jewellery education line

Rivalry, MEDIUM. Only about 4-6 formally listed Delhi competitors, but the top one (IIGJ) is government-backed with 40 years of brand and disclosed placement data. Pearl is multi-disciplinary and absent in Delhi for jewellery specifically. The market is contestable but the number-1 slot is bolted down.

Buyer power, HIGH. Students and parents have YouTube + Coursera + IIGJ as substitutes, can shop on fees, and are highly placement-sensitive. With no disclosed FSJD fees or placements, every enquiry is a manual sales conversation. The buyer can extract concessions. Mitigation: lock in cohort-discount windows and EMI partners (Eduvanz, Propelld, GrayQuest) to convert.

Supplier power, MEDIUM/HIGH.

Software: Rhino 3D (about US$995 educational seat one-time), Matrix by Gemvision (subscription, typically US$200-400/mo per seat at institute pricing), JewelCAD Pro (one-time licence per seat). For a 30-seat lab this is Rs 15-25L Capex once + Rs 3-5L/yr renewal [ESTIMATE from vendor pricing pages; not fetched live this pass].

Hardware: one 3D wax printer (Solidscape / DWS / EnvisionTEC) is Rs 8-25L; CAD workstations Rs 60-80k/seat.

Faculty: Senior CAD designers in Delhi command Rs 8-18 LPA full-time, or Rs 2,500-6,000/hr as visiting. Limited supply pool. This is the binding constraint, not Capex.

Threat of substitutes, HIGH.

Free/low-cost: YouTube Rhino + Matrix tutorials, GIA eLearning, Coursera/Udemy CAD-for-jewellery courses (Rs 500-5,000).

Industry in-house: Tanishq, Kalyan, Malabar, CaratLane, Bluestone run internal CAD training as part of hiring.

The defence is the combination of hands-on lab time, faculty mentorship, placement intros, not the content itself.

Threat of new entrants, MEDIUM. Regulatory barrier is low (no AICTE approval needed for diplomas). But the entry economics are real: a credible CAD/gemology lab is Rs 40-80L Capex before the first student walks in, and brand-building takes 2-3 cohorts before placement data exists. FSJD has already cleared this barrier; future entrants face the same wall.

Net read on the five forces: the structure is moderately attractive for a focused, well-capitalised specialist but punishing for any operator that under-invests in either the placement engine or the accreditation story.

6. Viability verdict

Yes, viable as a profitable boutique specialist, conditional on three things landing inside 12 months:

Get an external statutory wrap. Minimum GJSCI/NSDC affiliation; ideal-case a GJEPC observer/partner status. Without this, every IIGJ comparison kills the close.

Publish your first cohort's placement data the moment you have it, even if it is 8 students placed at Rs 3.5-4.5L. Numbers in public beat polished brochures.

Hold fees in the Rs 85k to Rs 1.5L corridor for JDDM/CAD/Gemology diplomas until the placement flywheel exists. Above that band you are competing with IIGJ's Rs 2.3L flagship without IIGJ's brand.

3-year revenue scope, single Delhi campus (from section 4): Y1 Rs 40-72L, Y2 Rs 95L-2.1 cr, Y3 Rs 1.8-3.6 cr. Gross margin in this category typically runs 35-50% at scale once faculty and rent are absorbed, implying Y3 contribution of Rs 70L-1.8 cr if execution is clean.

Key risks:

No published placements yet. First 2 cohorts are sold on FORE-brand inheritance alone.

Brand collision with FORE School of Management. "FORE" carries B-school equity; jewellery design is an awkward stretch for that brand. The site already shows this strain (some pages position FSJD standalone, others lean on FSM).

CAD/3D-print Capex sunk before validated demand. A 30-seat CAD lab is Rs 40-60L Capex; under-utilisation in Y1 is the single largest cash risk.

Sales cycle is parent-led and slow (avg 21-45 days from enquiry to enrolment for Rs 1L+ diplomas in this category); this directly shapes the Phase-4 ads/CRM design.

Key tailwinds:

Sector size genuinely large (US$85B domestic, US$28.5B exports FY25, IBEF [PRIMARY]).

Documented, decade-old skill gap (GJSCI/NCAER cluster mapping [SECONDARY, dated]).

Govt levers active: gold monetisation, hallmarking, EPCG/Skill India pipelines route public money toward formal training.

D2C jewellery boom (CaratLane / Bluestone / Giva / Melorra / Mia by Tanishq) has structurally increased demand for CAD-fluent in-house designers, a genuinely new and growing hiring channel that did not exist when IIGJ was founded.

7. Adjacent expansion, Graphic Design + UI/UX diplomas

The competitor landscape FSJD is walking into:

PlayerPositioningApprox. fee for a 6-mo equivalent
Pearl AcademyPremium brand, B.Des/M.Des Communication DesignRs 3.66L/sem, not comparable in tenure but anchors aspirational ceiling
Arch College (Jaipur)Mid-premium design schoolRs 1-2L for short courses
Designerrs / IDFUI/UX specialist online + Delhi cohortRs 60k to Rs 1.2L
Arena / FrameboxxMass-market GD/animation chainsRs 40k to Rs 90k
GreatLearning / Coursera / Coding NinjasOnline UI-UX certsRs 15k to Rs 60k
AAFT / Designerrs UXHybrid bootcampsRs 70k to Rs 1.5L

Honest call.

The GD/UI-UX bet has three structural problems for FSJD specifically:

No earned right to play. FSJD's identity, branding, and the only thing that differentiates it from a thousand other Delhi design diplomas is jewellery. The moment a parent Googles "UI/UX course Delhi" and finds FSJD next to Designerrs/IDF/AAFT, FSJD has no asymmetric story.

Brand dilution risk on the jewellery line. Phase 6 viability rests on becoming the credible jewellery-specialist alternative to IIGJ. A homepage that gives equal billing to UI/UX makes that positioning impossible; IIGJ does only jewellery, and that focus is part of why it converts.

The unit economics are worse. UI/UX cohorts churn faster (online substitutes are stronger), CAC is higher (the keyword "UI UX course Delhi" CPC is roughly 3-5x "jewellery CAD course Delhi" on Google Ads, directional, to be verified in Phase 4), and placement competition is brutal (every coding bootcamp claims placement).

Recommendation: De-emphasise GD/UI-UX on the public site for now. Keep them as alumni cross-sell or "design foundations" modules within the jewellery diploma (where they are genuinely useful, every jewellery designer benefits from a UI sensibility for the D2C catalogue work that increasingly dominates the industry). Revisit a standalone GD/UI-UX line only after Y2, when the jewellery placement story is established and the brand can carry a second vertical without confusing the funnel.

What is load-bearing and not yet confirmed (queue for Phase 1.5 if needed)

These items got to the candidate-claim stage of the deep-research workflow but the verifier subagents hit Anthropic-side rate limits and abstained. They are not refuted, but I would re-verify before any of them goes into a customer-facing pitch:

Exact FSJD launch date (deep-research found "approx 9 May 2025" via India Education Diary, which returned 403 to this session's direct fetch).

Updated 2024-25 GJSCI manpower-gap projection (the public Franchise India number is from 2017).

IIGJ Delhi 2024 and 2025 placement updates (CollegeDekho still shows 2023).

A primary-source confirmation that GJSCI is an NSDC-recognised SSC (universally believed; not on the page we fetched).
